Roma Termini Station Guide: Platforms, Tickets & Transfers
Roma Termini is one of Rome’s main railway stations and the city terminus of Leonardo Express from Fiumicino Airport. A good station plan starts with the exact name on your ticket. Roma Tiburtina is a different station, and selecting “Rome” in a search does not mean every result departs from Termini.
Match the station before planning your hotel transfer
Read both the departure and arrival fields on each ticket. If you arrive at Termini but leave from Tiburtina, plan a city transfer rather than a platform change. Check local transport for the date and allow for walking with bags. For a connection within Termini, keep enough time to leave the first train, read the departure information and find the next boarding area.
How to read the departure board
Look for Partenze, meaning departures, and match your operator, train number and scheduled departure time. Binario means platform. Your city may be an intermediate stop, so the displayed final destination may be farther away. Follow live station information if a platform changes. A platform remembered from a previous trip is not a reliable boarding instruction.
Board with the issued ticket
Keep the ticket or booking code available even without mobile data. On a reserved train, identify the carriage and seat on your actual travel document. Read its fare conditions before changing plans, and follow the instructions for any regional ticket validation. The email confirming payment is not necessarily the ticket; check that you have the document accepted for boarding.
Airport connections at Termini
Leonardo Express links Termini with FCO. Allow additional time beyond the advertised train ride for finding the platform, airport walking, security and airline check-in. If your flight is at Ciampino, use that airport’s connection instead. For flight-to-train journeys, separate tickets can have different rules if a delay causes you to miss an onward departure.
Luggage, facilities and meeting points
Choose bags you can manage through crowds and keep valuables close. Before relying on luggage storage, check the facility’s location, opening hours, accepted items and collection deadline; this guide does not guarantee a particular counter is open. Agree on a clearly named meeting point rather than simply “at the station”. Arrange accessibility assistance in advance with the appropriate operator.
