Italy Airport Trains: Fiumicino, Malpensa, Linate & Bergamo

Rome Fiumicino and Milan Malpensa have airport railway stations, while Linate uses Milan’s metro and Bergamo currently requires a surface connection to a railway station. Choose the service by your actual airport, terminal and destination address. An airport name in a flight search is not enough to identify the right train.

Fiumicino: choose Termini or a different Rome stop
Leonardo Express connects Fiumicino Aeroporto and Roma Termini in about 32 scheduled minutes. The published adult fare was €14 when checked on 11 October 2026. Its useful feature is a non-stop ride to Termini, which connects with Metro A and B and many onward trains.
FL1 serves other Rome stations, including Trastevere, Ostiense and Tiburtina. It can be more convenient when one of those stations fits your hotel or onward journey. The time depends on the selected stop; do not use the Termini journey time for an FL1 itinerary. Compare the entire trip to the address you need.
Buy the ticket for the selected airport service and follow its instructions. Integrated Metrebus tickets are not valid on Leonardo Express. Malpensa: choose Centrale, Cadorna and the terminal
Malpensa Express serves Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The operator lists about 51 minutes between Centrale and Terminal 1, or 37 minutes between Cadorna and Terminal 1. These are different routes and stations; check your exact train rather than relying on informal “Line A/Line B” labels.
The current main ticket page listed a €15 adult single and €7.50 for children aged 4–13 when checked on 11 October 2026. Digital, reloadable and return tickets have their own conditions. Check the ticket product, route and validity before purchase.
Centrale is useful for many onward intercity and high-speed trains and connects with M2 and M3. Cadorna connects with M1 and M2 and may suit another part of the city. If your onward ticket names Porta Garibaldi, Rogoredo or another station, include that transfer in the plan. See the Malpensa Express guide.
Linate and Bergamo need different plans
M4 connects Linate with San Babila in about 12 minutes. Use ATM’s metro ticket and zone rules; a Malpensa Express ticket is not a Linate airport ticket. For Bergamo, the airport’s current rail guidance uses a bus connection to Bergamo station. Compare this with a direct airport coach to Milan, allowing for traffic and the final walk or local transfer.
Build the connection around the flight
- After landing, allow for immigration, luggage collection and the walk to the rail or metro station.
- Before a flight, work backwards from the airline’s check-in and terminal-arrival requirements.
- Check first and last departures for the exact date; airport rail is not automatically a 24-hour service.
- If landing late, confirm an alternative using the airport’s current licensed bus or taxi information.
- For separately booked onward trains, read the missed-connection and change conditions before selecting a restricted fare.
Tickets, luggage and assistance
An airport train is not automatically included in a flight ticket, city pass or rail pass. Check the named product and service. Keep the issued travel document available and follow its validation rules; the regional ticket guide explains why digital formats differ.
Check luggage rules for the chosen operator and any connecting bus. Even when bags have no separate carriage charge, you must store them safely and manage them through the station. Arrange required accessibility assistance in advance and check current lift or service disruptions.
