Milano Centrale Station Guide: Trains & Airport Transfers
Milano Centrale is a major rail hub for Milan and a useful connection point between airport rail services and trains across Italy. It is different from Milano Cadorna, Milano Porta Garibaldi and Milano Rogoredo. Check the station name on each leg before comparing transfer times.
Centrale is not the same as every Milan station
A search for Milan may show several stations. If the arriving train uses Centrale and the next one uses another station, include a city transfer and any separate local transport ticket. Do not treat the gap between train times as free time for sightseeing until you have checked the actual station pair and the route between them.
Find your departure using the train number
At the station, follow signs for departures and read the current board. Match the operator, train number and time, then check the platform. The final destination shown may differ from your own intermediate stop. Give yourself time for internal walking and for reaching the correct carriage. If a platform changes, follow the station update rather than an old screenshot.
Malpensa Express and airport choice
For Malpensa Airport, check a Malpensa Express service that explicitly connects with Centrale and the terminal you need. The Cadorna service does not arrive at Centrale. If you are flying through Linate or Bergamo, plan the correct airport link instead. Check current service notices and allow time beyond the rail ride for terminal access and airline procedures.
Metro access and the final trip to your hotel
Centrale connects with Milan’s green and yellow metro lines, M2 and M3. Compare the destination address and current local route before buying the urban ticket. A long-distance railway ticket does not automatically cover the metro. If you need a taxi, use the designated official rank and check the applicable fare information before travelling.
Luggage and practical connection planning
Keep a small bag with tickets, identification and valuables close to you. Check luggage-storage opening hours and collection deadlines before leaving bags for a visit to the city. If changing trains on separately issued tickets, understand what happens after a delay before selecting a tight connection.
