Leonardo Express is Trenitalia’s non-stop rail link between Rome Fiumicino Airport and Roma Termini. It is a practical choice when your hotel or next train is near Termini. Start with the airport code and the exact arrival station: Fiumicino (FCO) and Ciampino (CIA) are different airports, and this service connects FCO.
Where does the Leonardo Express go?
The airport station is inside Fiumicino Airport. Follow the train signs after completing arrivals formalities and collecting your bags. At the city end, select Roma Termini. Trenitalia describes the scheduled journey as about 32 minutes; this is the train ride, not the time from your aircraft to your hotel. Allow separately for immigration, baggage collection, walking and local transport.
Tickets and validation: check the product you buy
Check the current adult and child conditions on Trenitalia’s Leonardo Express page before paying. A Rome urban transport ticket is not automatically an airport rail ticket: Trenitalia specifically excludes integrated Metrebus tickets from Leonardo Express. Read the instructions on your issued ticket for travel-date validity, changes and any required validation. A payment receipt alone is not the boarding document.
Connecting at Termini to Florence, Naples or Milan
Build the connection around the scheduled airport arrival, then add a realistic allowance for flight delays and airport formalities. At Termini you still need to locate the next train and reach its platform. If you buy the airport and high-speed legs separately, do not assume the onward ticket can be used on a later train after a flight delay. Compare the change conditions before choosing the cheapest restricted fare.
Luggage, children and assistance
The operator states that luggage, including large items, has no surcharge on this service. You still need to move and store your own bags safely. Family concessions are product-specific, so enter every traveller and check the current age and accompanying-adult conditions. Arrange any required boarding assistance through the relevant operator before travel; the presence of accessible seating does not itself reserve assistance.
A simple arrival-day checklist
Confirm FCO as the airport, save the actual rail ticket for offline access, note your hotel’s nearest stop and check live service notices before leaving arrivals. For an early flight, work backwards from the airline’s check-in requirements and verify the first train for that date. For a late arrival, check the last departure and keep an alternative transfer option in mind.
